A dad put a very creepy ad in a magazine jobs section to find a husband for his daughter

He saw fit to mention that she was a ‘godly virgin’. *shudders*

DADS OF IRELAND: Do not do this to your daughters. We repeat: Do NOT do this to your daughters.

Evidently worried that his 26-year-old daughter Rachel was fast becoming an old maid, US church elder Stephen Stewart decided to place this ad in evangelical magazine Christianity Today:

Her: godly, gorgeous, athletic, educated, careered, humorous, travelled, bilingual, 26-year-old virgin. You: unworthy, though becoming less so daily.

As if advertising your daughter for marriage wasn’t enough, he had to make reference to her virginity. Blech.

Christianity Today has since apologised to readers for publishing the ad, saying it was “demeaning and in poor taste”.

We want everything in our magazine to reflect beautiful orthodoxy, and this ad did not. We have taken a hard look at our ad review process, made some changes, and we can assure our readers that no ad like this will appear again.

However in a now-deleted post on her blog, Rachel appeared to take the whole thing in her stride.

“I’m not angry or embarrassed, I’m just nervous that if this doesn’t work out, next I’ll find my face plastered on a billboard,” she wrote.

At least it’s appropriate they placed it in the Employment Opportunities section because putting up with this father-in-law’s shenanigans is a full time job, without any paid vacation.

Don’t joke, Rachel. He’s just about desperate enough.
